MORE NEWS...........
Our youngest member, Samantha Duffy, made her solo competition debut in the International Tenor Drumming competition on the same weekend as the World Drumming solos.
Accompanied by her father, Pipe Major Philip Duffy and side drummer, Damien Russell she gave a confident and strong performance which earned her 10th place in a competition that saw her compete with players from some of the top bands.
Congratulations, Samantha.

Meanwhile, in Saltcoats, Robyn McKay competed in the Juvenile Festival of Solo Piping.
With her performances she earned herself a 3rd in the March, 2nd in the Strathspey and Reel and a mention for her piobreachd playing.
Well done, Robyn.

Next stop for both girls is the Leinster solo's on Saturday 3rd November where Samantha will compete in Advanced Tenor and Robyn in U16 piping.

Firstly........congratulations to our own G1 drummer, Mikie McKenna, on taking 5th prize in the Adult Final - a huge achievement - given the calibre of drummer he was up against in the event.
Congrats also go to to our G1 Lead Drummer,Stephen Creighton, on making it into the Final.
Steven McWhirter, leading-drummer of Grade 1 Inveraray & District, won his third World Solo Drumming Championship, and his second straight title, against a crowded array of most of the planet's best pipe band drummers.
The Final, which comprised MSR and Hornpipe & Jig events, was additionally notable for the absence of former-winner Gordon Brown - who was recently released from hospital after emergency surgery for a life-threatening ruptured ulcer - and perennial contender Reid Maxwell, who both failed to get through to the final events after receiving an exemption from playing in the heats.
There were three heats of between 17 and 22 contestants, narrowed to two semi-final sections of 14 and 15 players, and ultimately a final of 12.
1st - Steven McWhirter, Inverary & District
2nd - Barry Wilson, Scottish Power
3rd - Blair Brown, House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead
4th - Andrew Lawson, House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead
5th - Michael McKenna, St.Laurence O'Toole
6th - Eric Ward, Strathclyde Police
Also in the Final but not making the prizes were  :
Craig Brown, Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia
Stephen Creighton, St.Laurence O'Toole
Aaron McLean, Field Marshal Montgomery
 Chris McNicholl, Strathclyde Police
Gavin Noade, Field Marshal Montgomery
Cameron Ward  Strathclyde Police

Another great result for the band today.......3rd in Grade 3A.

The Grade 3A performance

BBC Scotland is again going global with live streaming from the World Pipe Band Championships.
For the fourth year running the broadcaster will be offering live streamed coverage from the Grade One arena of the iconic event on 11 August.
The World Pipe Championships, known as 'The Worlds', will attract around 40,000 visitors and 8,000 pipers, drummers and performers to Glasgow Green.
BBC Scotland has been broadcasting the event since 2006 and has made live streaming a feature of its coverage in recent years following enthusiastic feedback from lovers of traditional music across the world.
Eileen Herlihy, Head of BBC Scotland's Entertainment and Events, said:'We've had a chorus of approval for our online live coverage of the event from piping fans in many countries.

'It has become an appointment to view for members of the international piping community.
We know from feedback that many followers of traditional music will be hosting their own piping parties as they watch the action live from Glasgow.’

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, added: ‘We are delighted that the BBC have again agreed to provide this service for the many thousands of pipe band followers around the world who are unable to be in Glasgow in August’.

This year's programme on BBC One Scotland presented by Jackie Bird will transmit the following weekend with commentary from respected piper Bob Worrall who has also been an adjudicator at 'The Worlds'.
Full transmission details will be confirmed at a later date.

On BBC Radio Scotland, Pipeline, presented by Gary West, will feature the winning performances and results in its show on August 11 at 9.05 pm.
In the following week’s edition on August 18, the pipe music show will air more performances from the big event.
BBC Scotland's live web coverage can be accessed on which will also host video clips on demand, available worldwide, after the event.
Widely viewed as the single most important date in the calendar for pipe bands, this year the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland,
will battle it out to retain their 2011 World Champions title against bands from Scotland, Canada, America, Ireland, Northern Ireland and other countries from across the World.

lorna Congratulations to piper, Lorna Morgan, who recently married, drummer, Mick Sherry.

The wedding was attended by many of their friends from the band who surprised the bride by joining forces with other pipers and drummers to give a performance by "O'Tooles and company".
It was a wonderful weekend and we wish Lorna and Mick every happiness in the future.

One of the main purposes of the Development band is to prepare players for the G1 band.
After just one year we were saying farewell to two pipers and two drummers.
Pipers Martin Lavelle and Christopher Russell made their competition début with drummers Glen Creighton and Robbie Barrett at the Scottish Championships.
Well done, lads on a fantastic achievement, we're very proud of you all.

The Grade One band finished fifth overall with a good performance in what were overcast but dry conditions - a change for Dumbarton!
Our drum corp finished in third position.

The Grade 3A band had an excellent result in what was their first competition in Grade 3A,coming in fourth overall.

Bagpipe tuner app by Murray Blair - now available on iTunes

Price : €8.99 Euro (click on the image for more info)

Bagpipe Tuner for Highland Bagpipes accurately detects your pipe chanter notes, drones and displays the note, frequency and pitch position. Detection is via the inbuilt microphone, or in noisy environments an external microphone like the HBT clip mic can be attached.

Bagpipe Tuner features both digital and analog style meters, waveform input monitor and auto gain limiter. Simply press the Learn button and start tuning.

Using a Bagpipe Tuner can really make tuning less stressful, listening more pleasant and playing more enjoyable. You can quickly check your pipes at anytime to maintain good tone– before a gig, practising or competition. bagpipe tuner app

Why a Bagpipe Tuner? Highland bagpipes are incredibly hard to tune and unlike standard chromatic instruments, the intervals between each note continue to vary. Bagpipe Tuner correctly displays the scale and takes the guesswork out of using a chromatic tuner.

Bagpipe Tuner compliments the standalone BLAIR HBT tuners.
